ABSOLUTE at FuNeMS 2013

Isabelle Bucaille, our co-ordinator, chaired a panel of ABSOLUTE partners and EAB members at the Future Networks Mobile Summit (FuNeMS) in Lisbon which concludes today 5th July. In what was described as a "lively session", public safety services requirements, the technical challenges of meeting them and potential solutions were described and questions from the floor answered. The other participants were Shigeru Shimamoto, EAB member from Waseda University inTokyo; Thomas Weber, European Commission Office, Denmark; and Jim Strother, B-APCO, UK.

Panel Session 7a: Public Safety Future Networks

In the session, four presenters described the growing importance of providing communications that serve public safety services, also sometimes referred to as the “blue light services”.  The requirements of the public safety services, the technical challenges of meeting them and potential directions for solutions were described by the speakers.

Latest EAB bulletin and Questionnaire

Just a note for External Advisory Board members to say that the third EAB bulletin is available through the Intranet if you have registered, and has been e-mailed also. If you haven't received it please let me know.

The main Questionnaire is now due although I've extended the deadline until the end of June. All contributions are being analysed and will contribute to the work on the User Requirement deliverable in July and August. Please submit your response asap!

User Requirements update

The latest information on user requirements was presented to partners at the recent project meeting in York, United Kingdom, on 22-24 May. The feedback from the intial questionnaire was used to inform the constructino of the main questionnaires (Deliverable 2.2.1). They are now out for completion with all members of the External Advisory Board together with other selected user reprentatives. Some responses are already being analysed and all contributors are encouraged to send theirs in by 31st May if at all possible. We anticipate a large amount of data for analysis, both structured and unstructured, before the user requirement document (Deliverable 2.2.2) is completed. If you're involved, please find time to complete the questionnaire, and there's still time to contact me if you'd like to get involved. This email address is being protected from spambots. Users talk about broadband

B-APCO 2013 - the forum for emergency responders and suppliers from around the world - saw a user meeting to talk about broadband in the context of ABSOLUTE. Six UK users and one from Sweden from a variety of backgrounds including police, lifeboats, fire and the London 2012 Olympics gathered to help guide the ongoing requirements work for the project. The outcomes of a lively discussion will be integrated into the user requirements deliverable in the coming months.

If you haven't seen the main user questionnaires (for public safety end users / public safety end user support / temporary event organisers) please contact me if you would like to help.
